Harnessing the power of synthetic lipids in drug delivery

Progress in synthetic lipid nanoparticle-based delivery systems has led to the development of robust drug delivery systems. As seen in the new mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine delivery systems, the synthetic lipid nanoparticles are providing stability throughout the delivery process and helping generate a stronger immunogenic response.

Omicron-L452R could be the most risky SARS CoV-2 variant

By Krishna Unni

While the Omicron variant is typically characterised as less pathogenic and more transmissible than the parental and previous variants, which may be due to crystal structure changes caused by over 30 mutations in the Spike protein, the researchers found in this investigation that the further mutation of L452R in the Omicron variant not only rescued fusogenicity but also strengthened the high infectivity.

Why is the Omicron variant still not a serious threat at disease severity?

By CH Unnikrishnan

The real worry now in the world is that breakthrough infections among the fully vaccinated have become much more common. While the protection supposedly assured by the two-dose course of the vaccination has been proven shaky with the new variant camouflaging with the help of an unusually large number of mutations, the worry is that it can break through human immune cells too to get into the DNA, causing organ damage and making the disease progress into a critically severe condition and turn fatal.
